The company Altholz Baumgartner & Co has specialised for 20 years in recycling and treating reclaimed and used wood. Since 2013 it has worked with the designer Christian Loikits to develop products and surfaces from reclaimed wood for contemporary design under the label of Madame Patina.

The table-top series Dessus is a new development of the label Madame Patina. Reclaimed wood is pressed into plates with geometric, traditional grids in a multilayer process. Depending on the patterns the top layers create a special feel and unique look. Due to the raw material, each plate remains unique, even with serial production.

The product Zimmerbock is intended as a support for the table tops. The shape of the furniture is self-referential, as the reclaimed woods were stripped of nails and cleaned before cutting on such a trestle. The production method is a reminder of conventional peg technology, but the composite design is created by gluing together 10 or 12 parts, entirely without metal or dowels.

Die Firma Altholz Baumgartner & Co ist seit 20 Jahren auf die Wiederverwertung und Aufbereitung von altem und gebrauchtem Holz spezialisiert. Seit 2013 werden unter dem Label Madame Patina gemeinsam mit dem Designer Christian Loikits Produkte und Oberflächen aus Altholz für zeitgenössisches Design entwickelt.

Die Tischplattenserie Dessus ist eine Neu-entwicklung des Labels Madame Patina. Gebrauchtes Holz wird nach geometrischen, traditionellen Rastern im Mehrschichtverfahren zu Platten verpresst. Je nach Muster erzeugen die Decklagen eine besondere Haptik und einzigartige Optiken. Durch das Ausgangsma-terial bleibt selbst bei Serienfertigung jede Platte ein Unikat.

Das Produkt Zimmerbock ist als Träger für die Tischplatten gedacht. Die Form des Möbels ist selbstreferenziell, denn die verwendeten Althölzer wurden vor dem Zuschnitt auf Zimmerböcken entnagelt und gereinigt. Die Herstellungsweise zitiert die herkömmliche Zapfentechnik, der Verbund wird aber durch die Verleimung von 10 bzw. 12 Teilen völlig ohne Metall und Dübel geschaffen.

Backhausen was founded in 1849 and designs and manufactures high-quality, design-oriented upholstery and decorative fabrics. In the 19th century, Backhausen was already known for its innovation and quality, having been awarded the Gold Medal at London’s World Exhibition in 1850. In 1888, Backhausen was appointed purveyor to the Austrian Imperial Court and given the title “K. & K. Hoflieferant”. In 1970, Backhausen was awarded the Austrian Coat of Arms quality certificate. Its successful cooperation with contemporary artists around 1900 is continued even today with well-known Austrian artists and architects.

Line Circles and Wave Circles are Jacquard weaves with a hypnotic 3D effect achieved by the crossing, undulating lines and the flowing, bending circles of the design. Backhausen collaborated with the internationally recognised architectural firm of Coop Himmelb(l)au to create this pattern that reflects the curved outer surfaces of the buildings Coop Himmel(b)lau designs. The 3D material is environmentally friendly and is produced free of any harmful substances. Using the Trevira-CS yarn, the material is inherently flameproof and does not need any further treatment.

The focus of the TRIA coffee table is its unusual frame made of solid wood. A subtle yet dynamic impression is created by the arrangement and dimensioning of its individual massive struts in combination with the transparent plates of glass. Andrea Baumann designs her own dish-shaped objects. All items are individually handmade, so imbuing their forms with life. The materials used here are characterised by their transparency and brilliance. The objects fascinate with their tremendous stability, which nevertheless has a look of fragility.

Baumann’s Gold Dishes are hand-crafted from Limoges porcelain. These items are glazed and decorated with liquid gold, which is burnt on after being applied with a brush. The most important quality of porcelain – its transparency – and its interaction with light is particularly shown off by these dishes. All products are designed as everyday objects and can also be used as containers for food.

Andrea Baumann entwickelt Schalenobjekte. Ihre Arbeiten sind von Hand einzeln hergestellt und erhalten dadurch ihre lebendigen Formen. Die Materialien zeichnen sich durch ihre Transparenz und Leuchtkraft aus. Die Faszination liegt in der enormen Stabilität, die trotzdem fragil erscheint.

Baumanns glasierte Goldschalen sind von Hand aus Limoges-Porzellan geformt. In die Schalen wird Flüssiggold eingebrannt, das zuvor mit einem Pinsel aufgetragen wird. Die wesentliche Eigenschaft des Porzellans – die Transparenz – und das Spiel mit dem Licht kommen bei diesen Schalen gut zur Geltung. Alle Produkte sind zum Gebrauch bestimmt und können auch für Lebensmittel benutzt werden.

The Bowls of Light created by Baumann are hemispherical in design and hand-crafted from Limoges porcelain. This means that the wall thickness is not uniform, so producing the organic form of these pieces when fired (1260°). Liquid gold is used for fire-gilding at 800°.

Studio Bellidea was founded by Irene Maria Ganser and since 2005 has been engaged in innovative product design and design consulting, including the development of overall concepts in the field of interior design. In her design work for products and interiors Ganser focuses on natural materials, values and consistency, taking full advantage of her expertise in certified ‘green’ products and materials as well as in upcycling. This allows the interior designer to come up with a harmonious and often eclectic mix, which not only caters for the function of the individual room, but also for the basic human need to feel at ease in a space.

albeo is a coffee or side table made of brass and is available in various sizes. The form is an abstracted wooden stump featuring the end grain, created from an old wooden board. Different finishes applied to the brass casting such as grinding or polishing result in fascinating contrasts between materials and colours. The different heights and the option of different arrangements of the parts create additional points of interest. The items can be used both out- and indoors.

albeo ist ein Couchtisch oder Beistelltisch aus Messing und ist in verschiedenen Größen erhältlich. Die Form ist ein abstrahierter Holzstumpf mit der Maserung des Hirnholzes, welches von einem alten Holzbrett abgeformt wurde. Durch verschiedene Oberflächenbehandlungen des Messingabgusses, wie etwa Schleifen oder Feilen, ergeben sich interessante Material- und Farbkontraste. Die verschiedenen Höhen und die Möglichkeit von unterschiedlichen Anordnungen der Teile ergeben ein zusätzliches Spannungsfeld. Die Objekte sind sowohl im Außen- als auch Innenbereich einsetzbar.
