Andrea Baumann designs her own dish-shaped objects. All items are individually handmade, so imbuing their forms with life. The materials used here are characterised by their transparency and brilliance. The objects fascinate with their tremendous stability, which nevertheless has a look of fragility.

Baumann’s Gold Dishes are hand-crafted from Limoges porcelain. These items are glazed and decorated with liquid gold, which is burnt on after being applied with a brush. The most important quality of porcelain – its transparency – and its interaction with light is particularly shown off by these dishes. All products are designed as everyday objects and can also be used as containers for food.

Baumanns glasierte Goldschalen sind von Hand aus Limoges-Porzellan geformt. In die Schalen wird Flüssiggold eingebrannt, das zuvor mit einem Pinsel aufgetragen wird. Die wesentliche Eigenschaft des Porzellans – die Transparenz – und das Spiel mit dem Licht kommen bei diesen Schalen gut zur Geltung. Alle Produkte sind zum Gebrauch bestimmt und können auch für Lebensmittel benutzt werden.

The Bowls of Light created by Baumann are hemispherical in design and hand-crafted from Limoges porcelain. This means that the wall thickness is not uniform, so producing the organic form of these pieces when fired (1260°). Liquid gold is used for fire-gilding at 800°.

Under the company name eL Be, Lena Bauernberger designs decors for pottery and produces them in small batches in Melk in Lower Austria. Handmade ceramic ingots are the starting point for her handicraft. On the one hand she paints and edits them, on the other hand she combines ceramic with wood, glass, textile and metal elements. Thus unique everyday objects are produced, characterised by simplicity in appearance and use, made with humor and attention to detail. Many works can be personalised to customer’s request.

Das Blaue vom Himmel, Das Gelbe vom Ei, Gefundenes Fressen, Große Gefühle, Lorbeeren, Bonmots, Zur Feier des Tages, Wasser und Brot – these are some of the sayings inspiring Bauernberger’s special storage bins in handmade ceramic. These bins aim to surprise the beholder, amuse and encourage dialogue. The lettering is hand-painted using the technique of underglaze painting.

Die Dosen sollen den Betrachter überraschen, ihn amüsieren und ihn zu Dialogen animieren. Die Schrift ist in der Technik der Unterglasurmalerei handgemalt.

A handcast, rectangular vase with eight holes at the top is wrapped round with sealing wire like a package. This wire is pulled taut and secured with lead seals. In addition to the aesthetic effect, the wire offers extra functions:

- a square of 2 x 2 cm is formed in the opening of the vase, in which a flower takes possession of the space allocated it and is held upright
- thanks to the optimum tensioning of the wire, photos, maps or papers can easily be fixed in place between the ceramic and the wire

Bauernbergers quaderförmige Vase mit acht Löchern am oberen Rand wird paketartig mit Plombendraht umwickelt. Der Plombendraht wird gespannt und mit Bleiplomben verplombt. Neben einem ästhetischen Effekt schafft der Draht zusätzliche Funktionen:

- in der Öffnung der Vase entsteht ein Quadrat von 2 x 2 cm, in dem eine Blume ihren Platz behält und nicht umfällt

Thomas Feichtner is an internationally acclaimed product designer. The focus of his work is artistic aspects, an experimental approach to design and the search for an independent working method removed from mainstream globalisation and mass production. Many of his works have received international design prizes and have found their way into prestigious design collections. Feichtner lives and works in Vienna and is a Professor for Product Design at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel, Germany.

For his product Saliera, Thomas Feichtner took inspiration from the history of the longstanding silver manufactory Jarosinski & Vaugoin. During the late 1960s, they produced several replicas of the legendary Saliera by Benvenuto Cellini. For Feichtner this has given rise to a series of silver spice containers. The salt cellar can be tilted to remove salt through an opening with two fingers. In this way, Feichtner gets the users of the salt cellar to playfully, but consciously approach the concept underlying this object, rather than to just casually sprinkle on salt.

Thomas Feichtner ist ein etablierter österreichischer Produktdesigner. Im Vordergrund seiner Arbeiten stehen die künstlerischen Aspekte und der experimentelle Zugang zu Design. Er arbeitet für zahlreiche internationale Unternehmen. Viele seiner Arbeiten wurden ausgezeichnet und fanden Eingang in die renommiertesten Designsammlungen. Feichtner ist Professor für Produktdesign an der Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel, Deutschland. Er lebt und arbeitet in Wien.

Für sein Produkt Saliera ließ Thomas Feichtner sich von der Historie der traditionsreichen Silbermanufaktur Jarosinski & Vaugoin inspirieren. Diese stellten Ende der 60er Jahre mehrere Repliken der legendären Saliera von Benvenuto Cellini her. So entstand eine Serie aus mehreren Gewürzgefäßen aus Silber. Durch Kippen des Salzfasses kann man das Salz mit entnehmen. Feichtner bringt den Benützer so dazu, sich spielerisch, aber bewusst an das Salzfass heranzutasten und nicht nur beiläufig vom Salz Gebrauch zu machen.

In 1823 Josef Lobmeyr opened his first little shop in the heart of Vienna. Since then six generations unveil the miracle of glass. Together with designers like Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos, Ted Muehling and Max Lamb classics in handmade crystal and chandeliers were born, which are appreciated by connaisseurs all over the world. Lobmeyr crystal can be found in collections like the MoMA New York, V&A London and the MAK in Vienna.

The MOMA in New York collects it, Alain Ducasse serves it, the best designers create it and people all over the world treasure it every day: glassware made by Vienna manufacturer J. & L. Lobmeyr sparks universal fascination. Before reaching the shops, Lobmeyr glassware has gone through at least 24 pairs of hands and four separate quality controls, the last of which is always by a member of the family. It’s the little differences that make Lobmeyr glassware what it is and inspire Lobmeyr fans all over the world. Lobmeyr glass designers are painters, architects, and designers. Around the turn of the century it was Josef Hoffmann or Adolf Loos, today it is Stefan Sagmeister, Helmut Lang, Ted Muehling, Gregor Eichinger, Michael Anastassiades, Tomàs Alonso, Marco Dessí and others.

The Te a me cup offers a solution to these problems. The tea bag’s label can be fixed easily to the slot of the cup’s side. To keep the water hot it is possible to place the saucer on the cup. After usage, the tea bag can be deposited on the saucer.

Das Teeset Te a me begegnet diesem Problem auf unkomplizierte Weise, indem der Teebeutel in den Rand der Tasse eingehängt werden kann. In einer Vertiefung in der Mitte der Untertasse kann der Beutel nach dessen Gebrauch abgelegt und mit der Tasse abgedeckt werden.

AA large part of the energy consumed in every household is used for preparing and storing food. The effects of our energy and food consumption on climate change is topic in all media. Fruit and vegetables do not need to be put into the fridge, but love it humid and cool as they mostly consist of water. Crops get disconntected from their natural water supply during harvest. Exposed to the air and evaporation, they tend to wither and dry out. Due to a special evaporation principle inside the EVA bowls the fruit stays fresh and can be stored naturally outside the fridge. The sieve can be directly used for washing the fruits. Then just add some water from time to time.

Das Sieb kann direkt zum Waschen der Früchte verwendet werden. Von Zeit zu Zeit einfach etwas Wasser hinzufügen, das ist alles.

Zitta Schnitt derives inspiration from travelling and observing the everyday world around her. This product designer analyses what she sees and then translates it into new design concepts, so bringing together traditional ideas and contemporary details. She is passionate about using high-quality materials, resulting in sophisticated aesthetics of design. One of the services offered by Schnitt is the development of “Slow Souvenirs” for museums and other institutions. A current reference project is the MMKA Brooch series, which was specially designed for Holland’s Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Arnhem.

Diamond Tower is meant to exist as an independent object in a room. The object turns into a small architectural unit in its own right, even when the vase is empty and would otherwise be put away. The bottom part is made of hand-blown glass and covered with a diamond-shaped grid, which acts as placeholder for single flowers. Through the systematic grid arrangement, a large circular arc can be created with a bouquet of flowers. The number of flowers can be reduced to cater for personal taste.

Diamond Tower hat seine Existenzberechtigung als eigenständiges Objekt im Raum. Durch die abgeschlossene Form des Objekts präsentiert sich die Vase als kleine Architektur, auch wenn sie nicht in Gebrauch ist. Der Bauch besteht aus mundgeblasenem Glas, welchem ein diamantenförmiger Gitteraufsatz aufgesetzt ist. Durch die systematische Anordnung des Gitters kann ein voller Blumenstrauß gesteckt werden. Um eine ästhetische Komposition zu erzeugen, kann die Anzahl der Blumen nach Bedarf reduziert werden.
